This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kids are a bright, energetic group of young people. They come from diverse backgrounds: military families, low-income, English language learners, and transient.

School is their constant, where they belong!

I make the class warm, welcoming, and inviting, and they want to be in it! They also get to experience changing classes to prepare them for middle school, and I get to influence teo very different groups of fifth graders!

My favorite part of teaching is when students have that "aha" moment when they 'get' something or persevere. I want them being life-long learners when they leave me, with a love of reading.

My Project

My students come to class every day to learn but sometimes things just get in the way! Not having a pencil or headphones can embarrass or upset my kids. They become more concerned about what they DON't have instead of what they can DO!

These supplies will eliminate that stigma for ALL my students!

The presharpened pencils will be kept in a central location in my room so all students can use them as needed and having over 300 of them will insure I don't run out for the whole year!

The headphones will be used for the times I assign individualized learning in my class. I create hyperdocs, a self-paced learning path that students follow using chomebooks and headphones, to extend fifth grade material or catch up students who have gaps in their learning.

The super sticky notes the students mark character traits, story plot, interesting vocabulary, and author's craft in the chapter books they are reading. The SUPER part will insure the notes don't fall out until we share what we've found!

The color Jenga Block bring a twist to the game. The students pick a color of a block as the game suggests but then must answer a review question correctly to be able pull that color from the stack.
