Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are in need of essential hygiene products. The students are residents of the Englewood Community on the south side of Chicago. They have dreams and aspirations. Parker students want to learn, be successful, and contribute positively to society.

Having the basic necessities are crucial for students and their academic success.

Students should not be defined by limited resources. Many of the students are exposed to community violence and financial hardships, but have the drive and ambition to be successful.

My Project

As a social worker, teachers regularly ask for hygiene products for students. When students are aware that I may have hygiene products that will ask for products as well. It is difficult for a student to concentrate when basic needs are not met. Good hygiene is essential for students. Appropriate hygiene provides for a powerful learning environment.

I have witnessed how improved hygiene increases students self-esteem and feeling of self-worth which leads to higher academic achievement.

Students must be prepared before entering the classroom. The burden of outside worries shouldn't interfere with the student's learning process. I am asking for these essential items to help improve a child's self-esteem.
