My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many languages are spoken at my school. My 9- to 10-year-olds have a thirst for knowledge and lots of energy. They come to school eager to learn something new each day.

They are really great scholars who want to be at school every day, and they inspire me to give my best to them each day.

I want to make sure I have all the things I need to make each day count.

My Project

Reading good authentic literature is important to building young readers. With the rise in popularity, graphic novels have become one of the fastest growing genres for 4th graders.

"Ms Barber- can you find me more graphic novels?" asks just about every child in my class.

I can't keep them on the bookshelves!

Series like Amulet, Babysitters Club, and I Survived are popular in my class. I want to have enough books to share with all my students. We spend 30-60 minutes of our day reading to ourselves. These graphic novels are a great way to engage my readers.
