My Students

The students in our school are special because they all come to school with a sense of community, family, and wonder despite the difficult situations or hardships they each have in their personal lives. I am amazed every single day, seeing the effort and dedication my students put forth. Homelessness, divorce, parent(s) in jail, gangs, abuse, lack of meals, or local shootings are sadly all too common with the population of children our school serves. Regardless of their personal home lives, they each deserve the same exposure and resources of children everywhere, including the more affluent areas of our city.

All students are special, but not all students are afforded the same resources or funding to help ensure they will have equal opportunities to meet the challenges of today and the future.

Our students are very interested in making a better life for themselves and their families at the age of eight. They have needed to grow up faster than their years to navigate a world that children are usually happily ignorant of. This knowledge has given them each an urgency to learn. They know that technology, science, and math will be keys to unlocking their futures!

My Project

Students are slowly returning to the physical classrooms, and I know we all couldn't be happier! Learning with our hands on the materials and our faces off a computer screen will be so good for all of us.

Now that we will be back in the classroom, I am asking for some new PAPER graphic novel books that feature more strong female characters and heroes of color.I have also added the continuing books now available to many series we already have to continue those adventures.

This would be a great addition to our class collection. I also know that my previous students in the upper grades will also be excited to read these new books from series they enjoyed in my class.
