This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. ~Maya Angelou Students are bursting at the seams to tell their stories. In my classroom, I want to foster a stress-free environment where they learn to take risks while writing. We need a few tools to become published authors.

Our school is an applied learning school where students' learning is primarily through project-based activities.

The students are eager to learn. The majority of students in my class are English language learners. For this reason, we focus on reading fluency, comprehension and writing.

My Project

One of the most exciting times during the school year is when our writing is ready for publishing. Students work very diligently with their writing partner to get to that point. Learning that the story inside of each one of us can come out is a powerful thing. Once that story is "out" and on paper, we want to be able to share them with a wider audience. With these crayons, colored pencils, felt markers, blank books, white boards, paper and book binding machine my students will be able to become accomplished authors and illustrators. Pencil boxes and tote bags will keep our materials organized. We will use the iPad to research favorite authors, read (and listen to) books online to see what a finished storybook looks like and use apps to practice correct letter formation. We will have all the necessary tools to let our stories be free and we will share them with whomever crosses our path.

Students love to share what they can do, especially with the people they care for.
