Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are funny, kind, energetic 7th graders at a bilingual charter middle school. They live in the South Bronx and often face many difficulties at home. Many are learning English as a second language and some are special education students. Despite these challenges, though, each day they come to school ready and eager to learn. When they are engaged in a book, they think it is the greatest thing ever. They are wonderful, enthusiastic, dedicated students who deserve great reading materials.
My Project
This project will give my students a wider variety of great books to choose from. Many of my students are reluctant readers who say that reading is boring. When they have a book they like, though, they are passionate about it and love telling others about it! I want to increase my classroom library's offerings of engaging books that will excite my students and help them see how awesome reading can be. This project will go far in offering my students new options of books that they might love to read. This will help them improve their reading levels and become life-long readers.
