Ms. Picek from Saint Louis MO is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 54 books and book sets, such as "The Complete Wreck" and the "Dork Diaries" series to read in order to improve their literacy skills. They specifically requested these books and are very excited to read them!

My students want to read - but first they need books!
I teach Communication Arts to 7th and 8th graders in a low-income middle school in Missouri.
My school has chosen literacy as its main focus this year, in order to aid our students in the reading and comprehension skills they need to succeed in high school, college and beyond. Reading for fun is an important part of this and my classroom needs a library that students can enjoy. My students want to read but they do not have access to a wide variety of books at home or in our school library. My students need to improve their reading skills. Most of the 7th and 8th graders are reading at a 2nd or 3rd grade level. These skills are too low. They need to raise their reading levels this year in order to achieve future success, and a class library is part of that.
All of the books on the list were specifically requested by my students. These are the books THEY are excited to read. Student interest is a crucial motivating factor for improving literacy skills. If students are interested in books, they are more likely to finish them. The more students read, the more their reading skills can grow.
My classroom NEEDS these books and my students are very excited for the chance to read the books of their choosing.
Right now, I do not have a large classroom library. As a Communication Arts teacher, it is necessary for my students that I provide them with the resources they need to grow.
