This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am excited to present a grant proposal for improving my classroom library at GES in Santa Cruz, California. As a Title 1 school with a diverse student body, my aim is to ensure equitable access to quality literature. The truth is my class library is very outdated. I still find the names of my former teachers on the inside covers of some of my older books. I want my students to have access to quality literature that inspires them to love both reading and writing.

The project's overarching goal is to transform my library into a more dynamic space that promotes literacy, fosters a sense of belonging, and ignites a passion for learning.

Specific objectives include enhancing learning resources, embracing technology, and promoting a love for reading.

My students, primarily individuals of color in a Title 1 school, bring unique experiences, perspectives, and talents to our learning environment. Addressing their needs through an upgraded library not only cultivates informed and empowered individuals but also contributes to a more inclusive society. Most of my students do not have access to any books, let alone quality books. Building a robust class library is a great step toward addressing this.

In conclusion, this grant proposal is a significant step toward ensuring my students have access to a library that supports their academic journey. Investing in this project not only builds a foundation for educational success but also fosters a love for learning that will last a lifetime.
