This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an 8th grade teacher in Metro Atlanta who is in love with his job and his school. I find great inspiration every day in my students, who persevere in their difficult circumstances. We are in a high-need school but you wouldn't know it by the spirit they bring every day.

The hurdle my students face is simple: they need to read better. They are drowning in a culture that is hostile towards reading. I want to throw them the same rope I got as a kid, great books!

I need a variety of books to surround my kids with choice. I want the classics, because you need the classics. But I also want the popular teen series, to hook them, to instill the love of reading. A love of books is the key to life long learning. That is the gift I want to give my students.

Our students cannot be successful if they do not read well. It is really that simple. I know how competitive the world is and I want our kids to compete on the highest level. To do that, they will need to be learners their entire lives and loving books will help them do that. Thank you for being at this site and caring about what we love to do!
