Great Books for Girls

My students need 10 books that girls can't wait to pick up and read.

My Students

I am the librarian at an inner city, K-6 elementary school. Our school is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school. EL involves rigorous academic work centered on compelling topics that are both interesting and relevant to the students.

As the librarian, I see all the students during the course of the week.

We are an exceptionally high performing school and my students just love to read. They are constantly asking me where I keep my new books and do I have popular fiction like the books in Barnes and Nobles. While I try to keep up with the times, my budget is extremely limited and I only receive $1,000 a year for new books. That buys me less than 70 new books a year.

My Project

I am currently looking for fiction books that I know my girls would love to read. I am especially short on fiction for girls in grades 2-4. I know the type of books they like and I also know that once they are hooked on a series, they will read every book I have in that series. It would be so nice to tell them that I have new books available and know that they will be so excited to take these books out of the library.

Books are so important to our students and the more they read, the more they learn.

The books I am asking for will be housed in the library, so they will be used by our current students, and by students for years to come. I would be so happy to answer, "Yes, I do have that book" when my students, especially my girls, come into the library and request a book to read at their level. Thank you so much for considering this proposal.
