My Students

I work at a wonderful small town school in east Texas with students who are curious and eager to learn. I myself went to school here from 1st through 12th grade and am excited to be back home. Our sense of community is strong, and I love seeing the students show pride in their work and school.

For some students, school is their safe place.

They love interactive learning and thrive in a loving positive environment.

Movement in this classroom is key, and I love giving them that opportunity. They think, they question, they wonder, and they collaborate!

My students are bright, fun, and energetic!

My Project

Every day I read several books to my class. Sometimes it's carpet time after recess, just to enjoy listening to a fun story. Sometimes I introduce new concepts with a book. The children especially love that.

Books take you places that you might not otherwise get to go.

I love using trade books as mentor texts. I also do a lot of Whole Brain Teaching techniques and incorporate oral writing. Good writers learn from great writers.

Kids love non-fiction books too. Finding something that interests the students helps make learning new concepts fun and meaningful. We love to discuss how we can relate to things in books.
