My Students

My students are enthusiastic and imaginative learners who just so happen to be at-risk. They come from a very low income neighborhood. Most of them scored Limited or Basic on their state tests, but luckily their teachers do not see them as Limited in any way, and they most certainly are not basic!

When children have books with characters who resemble them, they are more connected to their reading!

I want a library for my students that will be exciting and accessible to their reading level.

My Project

Most of the students in my fifth and sixth grade classes are reading below grade level. To reach them, I need more high-interest but low readability books. My wish is to fund this project so that I can truly teach them on level. I have many higher level books, but not enough for my below-grade level learners. When they choose these books, they know in their heart they're too hard, and they lose motivation.

I want ALL of my readers to be able to go to my shelves and choose a book with confidence!

I want them to find a book that they CAN read and understand, and then they'll be able to increase their reading the more they practice.
