My students make up of a very diverse landscape, with many cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. Our school is rooted in providing an international education, where grades K-12 learn, share and discover not only our differences, but also how that diversity can unite us.
Teaching art to these children is quite possibly the best job out there.
They are driven, curious and engaged. Whether they are facing discouragement, physical challenges, or just feeling like they are not measuring up...I tell each child that enters the art room, "Everyone is an artist when you walk through that door." They thrive at creating when they believe this!
My Project
With new art tables, my students will be able to draw, paint, weave and create many masterpieces without the wobbling, shifting, and bumpy surface that the old folding tables give them. They have resorted to drawing on top of books for a smooth surface or often sitting on the floor so the tables won't shift, lean and sway.
Art students in our school are taught to engage in a work ethic like professional artists do.
They are continually challenged and pushed to go far beyond where they think their skills will take them.
Whether they are folding origami stars for the elderly, creating self portraits, or recording daily art journal responses, these students are held to a high expectation. Having proper tables would provide them a stable and secure surface to work on.
