My students need books that are more appropriate for them, and the book levels I and J will provide them with many hours of valuable reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently teaching a first grade grade of 24 students. The children are from a high need community where many of the parents struggle to make ends meet. The entire population of the school receives free lunch.
My children came into my class just knowing the alphabet. Very few of them could read in Spanish, which is their first language. Today they can all read in English, but we are faced with the dilemma of not having enough books on their level to help them continue to excel. I am constantly amazed to see that whenever they have finished with their work, they quickly take out a book to read.
We are in dire need of books on levels I, and J to help them continue reading progressively. These books will help them to continue to foster their love for reading, and learning!
You will make it possible for my students to continue to love reading, and make every minute of their school day a challenge. These books will help my students establish a book club where we will review and discuss the books. Children will take the role of critics. We plan to visit other first grade classes to let them know about our new books. Please consider awarding our proposal to help my children succeed!
