Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a high school math teacher and the majority of my students are low income. Having these tools available to them will help them be successful.

Graphing whiteboards are a fantastic tool for teaching linear functions because they provide an interactive and visual way for students to engage with the concepts.

By using whiteboards, students can quickly sketch graphs of linear equations, test different slopes and y-intercepts, and visually explore how changes in the equation affect the graph. I will be able to give immediate, personalized feedback as students work through problems, and the hands-on nature of the whiteboards encourages active participation.

A charging station in the classroom can be a game-changer for keeping students' cell phones charged and ensuring that technology remains a helpful tool, rather than a distraction. This setup can also encourage students to keep their devices off or on "Do Not Disturb" mode, knowing they have a place to recharge. I use the math tool Desmos a lot in my classroom and students are able to access Desmos from their phone. It is important that students have a charged phone in my math classroom .

Classroom lighting plays a crucial role in creating an effective and comfortable learning environment, especially in a math classroom where focus and concentration are key. Proper lighting helps reduce eye strain and fatigue, which can be a major barrier to learning, particularly when students are working with visual materials like graphs and equations on whiteboards or screens. Having the right lighting can set the mood for different types of lessons and being able to adjust the lighting to match the activity and the time of day can help students maintain focus, stay alert, and enhance their overall learning experience in the math classroom.
