Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are spirited, curious, and determined group of 7th and 8th graders! My students come from multi-dimensional backgrounds and yet, they are all heart. My students range from multi-generational families living in the same home to students who have single parents having to work multiple jobs. Attending school in a smaller, older building does not afford them the same access to technology as our school does not receive funds from county taxes. My goal is to help prepare my students for their life beyond junior high school and technology will enable my students to take advantage of lessons to help re-enforce their learning in this high-tech world.
As no two students learn at the same speed or in the same way, differentiated lessons are key to learning.
With the help of technology, students who are ready to move ahead in their learning will be able to do so while students needing extra time in an area are able to receive help. Every student deserves to receive the highest quality of learning possible.
My Project
Calculators are a daily necessity for the eighth graders in my classroom, especially in their STAAR math lessons. The use of these calculators for math allows my students to reach their highest levels of success possible. The calculators allow these special needs students to see exactly what they are doing, as well as where numbers should go. Eighth graders in Texas are allowed graphing calculators, however, without enough funding our school is unable to provide enough for all students. Even though students are may need to share the calculators, being able to see and understand their math will be possible with peer grouping.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student understanding and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their calculators are going to allow them to reach an answer or not. Plus in this technology-literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their mathematical literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
