My Project

You have never met a greater group of ten-year-olds. Unfortunately, the chaos of schooling during the pandemic broke my students' motivation and momentum for reading beyond the classroom assignment. Nearly all avoid reading unless I'm hawking books and facilitating discussion groups. This project would allow me to create a section in our classroom library that is of high interest while exposing them to different genres and text structures.

This is the first time in their school career that my students have participated in book discussions.

Over the course of the year, they have assumed the responsibilities of book selections, group formations, and even writing their own questions. They even set their own goals for improvement and provide feedback to each other. It has been a joy to become the "guide on the side."
