My students need -- & deserve -- to have graphic works written to their ages & levels just like the ones that their older brothers & sisters love so much.

My Students
The kids that come into my library are survivors. My students range from PreK to Grade 5 & come from high-poverty, low-income areas, but their hunger for knowledge is real.
The Louisiana Flood of 2016 may have washed away their belongings, but it has not diminished their spirits.
These kids are true learners, and they deserve every opportunity to achieve greatness.
Good hearts, capable minds, eyes open wide - my students have all of these. All they need is a chance to put them to use.
My Project
Graphic novels & other literary works are all the rage right now with young readers. The artistic approach to a story draws most all readers in immediately, & it has a special sway over reluctant readers. Kids who usually avoid books like The Plague even find themselves drawn to the Graphic Works section of the library.
In looking to further develop the graphic titles in the library, this project aims to increase the titles here that appeal to our younger readers, specifically those in grades 1-3.
Perfect for early elementary grades, this stunning hardcover collection includes fourteen critically-acclaimed titles that span TOON's three reading levels to engage children as they progress from the Kindergarten to third grade reading level. TOON Books is home to high-quality comics for kids. Every book has been vetted by literacy experts to ensure that its language and narrative is appropriate for its reading level.
