Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When modeling with graphic organizers, it's important to do it live. It is important to show your thinking process as it happens. This helps kids understand how to use the graphic organizer effectively.

In writing, I would model my think aloud to demonstrate the thought process behind the writing.

I ask myself questions that students should be asking themselves while completing the graphic organizer. For example, if you are focusing on problem/solution text structure, ask questions like: What is the problem the author is identifying? What are the suggested solutions?

Teaching the use of graphic organizers is about the process, not the perfect product. Students would be encouraged to focus on critical thinking, making connections, and synthesizing information. The goal is for students to engage deeply with the content, not to create a visually perfect organizer.

These particular organizers would be utilized in writing (beginning/Advanced writers), reading, math, and in other content areas as needed. In addition, the proposal also contains pocket charts to organize supplies, and math anchor charts for additional student and parental support with the common core math.
