Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, inspiring, and need some new materials to work with to continue their learning. They are primarily Hispanic and come from a very low income area. Most of my students started speaking Spanish when they were younger and didn't start learning English until they started Kindergarten.

This makes learning a challenge at times.

Our school is a Title I school that has over 90% of our students receiving free lunch. The families at our school are required to volunteer at least 20 hours a year to help support the school.

My Project

My students have been asking me to update my library and include even more graphic novels. Every donation to this project will be matched, so this is the perfect time to donate.

These books will give my students the opportunity to read some great novels in graphic form.

5th graders have been enjoying this type of reading for years, and so often these are the books they take home and keep. Therefore, I need to replenish my graphic novels often. Reading is one of the few free pleasures in life that allow us to escape reality and live in a dream world. I want my students to enjoy the same love of learning that I have.
