My Project

Teaching in a low socioeconomic status school environment can be a challenge, but the students that I teach make this a challenge worth facing. My students come from varied backgrounds, from being refugees and first-generation citizens of the United States to living in single-parent homes and being homeless. My students work hard and they are eager to learn and succeed.

My students have the added burden of having learning disabilities and have not yet mastered the skill of reading.

My students need to find books that speak to them. They need books that will make them laugh. They need books that will give them the desire to work hard to master the skills they don't yet have. Books like Pizza and Taco and Nugget And Dog will draw them in and foster their desire to read.
