My Project

My middle schoolers love graphic novels and quickly go through every book on the shelf. We need more graphic novels to keep our students reading.

I would like to add high-interest, engaging, graphic novels to expand our library collection and promote a culture of literacy among our students.

When my students visit the library, they rush to the graphic novels. Reading graphic novels improves comprehension and also skills such as inference, memory, and sequencing. They are particularly beneficial for our English language learners as the pictures provide cues to understanding the text.

The graphic novels in this project span several interest and reading levels to appeal to the 5th-8th grade developmental range in our middle school. They cover the genres of humor, realistic fiction, memoirs, and fantasy to appeal to a wide variety of readers.
