My Project

I have all sorts of readers in my school. While some read through a wide variety of genres, others tend to be far more selective. I'm trying to broaden the reading horizons of my students, and one way I've been doing that is by expanding our graphic novel and Manga selection.

Kids read more when they have access to books they want to read.

Many of my reluctant readers will readily pick up a graphic novel, which means these can serve as a gateway to other books! The more a child reads, they better they become at reading -- but getting them to start is often the first challenge. These new Manga and graphic novels are appealing and accessible, which means that more and more students will be likely to pick up a book and explore.
