Graphic Novels Is the Secret to Get Reluctant Readers Reading!

My Students

The students at my school are excited to learn! We have a total of about 560 students at our school. We are a Title I-funded school, so the majority of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The students come from an assortment of cultures and backgrounds, with some participating in a bilingual program at our school.

My students can become lifelong learners through meaningful conversations, engaging books, and exciting projects.

We use lots of hands-on, interactive activities to help our students stay engaged.

My Project

I have found that graphic novels are the secret to getting reluctant and struggling readers to fall in love with reading! Graphic novels have a lot less text on a page than a typical novel and so my students are not as intimidated. The storylines capture their attention, the characters are fun, and once they start reading, they don't want to put the book down! I have students begging me for more graphic novels because they have read the books I have or the books they want to read are being read by other students. I need more graphic novels on my book shelves to keep up with my students!
