My students are from many different countries and cultures, all gathering together each day in an urban school in Massachusetts. A vast majority of my students come from low income households and cannot afford basic materials needed to be successful in school. More than half of my students have a native language other than English, and are continually learning English day by day.
They are bright young people who have so much potential, and just need the encouragement and tools to get there.
This is the second year of the new MA standards for history, which consists of Civics and Government for grade 8. One important topic in these new standards is the development of the U.S. government, focusing on the Constitution.
Using a graphic novel to teach my students about the Constitution would hook my students on the topic and give them both a textual and visual representation of our founding document.
I am looking to purchase a class set of The United States Constitution A Graphic Adaptation to make the topic come alive in my classroom and allow all students to access the important information in this document.
