Graphic Novels for My 5th Graders

My Students

My students are so excited to learn and have a passion to learn in different ways. They live in a growing suburb area of Salt Lake City and the schools are becoming very crowded because this is where young families want to live. Parents are involved in their children's education and want them to succeed. The expectations are high for their educational growth and with that, the parents and students are wanting a variety of ways for them to learn. I love their passion and excitement.

Using books of different genres and reading levels will help enhance the student's understanding of history.

They can make connections and learn through different avenues and perspectives.

It brings their experience to life and helps them make a connection to what is being taught. I love it when I see my students' lightbulb click on when I teach them historical events and how they can connect it to their own lives.

My Project

Graphic novels are the rage with children ages 8-14.

The graphic novels that I have requested for this project will make a difference in my students' learning because they are excited to learn about history, but this will actually bring it to life in a fun way.

The books will be used at school and will be used to reference the Revolutionary War. It is a unique way to teach history and Learning about the Revolutionary War in a different way, rather than in a normal text book, will help the students relate to what happened and will also make an impact that will stay with them in their memory.
