This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students currently attend a Title I school and I would love to spark an interest in reading. The interests of our students seem to change on a monthly basis but what stays the same is their interests in graphic novels.

Students in my library love to read about superheroes and villains.

They love comic books too but that’s why graphic novels are a perfect bridge for their interests. They are reading stories written like a comic book. Our school is a TK-5 but recently added 3 6th grade classes. These 6th grade students specifically ask for graphic novels because it’s fun to read! I’d like to supply our students with a larger collection of graphic novel books to continue their love of reading.

Therefore, I would love to have more options of graphic novels books specifically for our older students in hopes this will hold their interests and keep them reading in my library.

Lastly, I’d like to add that these graphic novels will also be available for all children in our whole school not just 6th grade but for the students who will grow in our school library throughout the years to come!
