My Students

My students are 1st graders at an elementary school in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago, a very family oriented community. All of my students work hard each and every day to reach and exceed their potential with a little guidance, encouragement and love from me! My students are curious, caring, always excited to learn, and so hardworking! They enjoy curling up and reading a book in our library as well as working with hands-on materials in small groups. My students have incredible imaginations and are extremely creative. I love to challenge them and see their individual talents shine through.

My Project

Studies have shown that classrooms with libraries with plentiful access to comic books and graphic novels have almost double to reading growth than classrooms without any of these amazing resources. This project aims to enrich our classroom library to inspire students to push their reading skills by relating to some of their favorite things, cartoons, and superheroes.

School is supposed to be a fun and exciting place, comic books, and graphic novels bring that idea to life.

Not only will we read these books as a class, but students will read these books independently and with partners, practicing their skills and using our new resource in a variety of settings.
