Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 12-13-year-old students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our school's 7th grade special education inclusion program. My students focus their time in school on learning and studying; their home situations can be unstable and school is a stable environment. My team and I work with each student to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their academic studies are.
I am a seventh grade special education and reading teacher in a low-income school district currently in state receivership.
Our school has made amazing growth in the past five years, and the students will continue to strive for the best. The seventh graders are hardworking students and deserve to have every opportunity offered to them regardless of their hometown.
My students overcome obstacles every day to be the best students they can be. They attend an extended school day, participate in intramural sports and after-school activities, and love their families and community.

By having these graphic novels available in my classroom, my students who are English language learners will be able to enjoy reading!
We don't want them to get frustrated by words they do not know or can't understand because they are still learning English. Having a wide selection of graphic novels will help my students enjoy reading a variety of topics and interests. They are a great group of 7th grade students who work very hard and they want to succeed.
