This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! I teach at a Title l school in the northeast part of Memphis. These children work hard at school with an extended school day that runs from 8:00 to 4:30 to help bridge learning gaps. I am always amazed by my students creativity and interest in learning and being their best selves.

All 320 students in our school have to have a book on them at all times to read.

These books are used when they are done with their classwork, waiting for lunch, or just need something to do. As it is May, the students have read most of the books in the library, and they need new books. Our students love graphic novels, but they never seem to stay on the shelf.

My Project

When kids have books they want to read they are more engaged and become life long readers. Reading helps my students increase fluency and learn new words. The Hate U Give is a new book that has been requested by many of the 8th graders. The amulet series is the most popular graphic novel series and the kids are always waiting to read the next one!
