This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of our middle school students are disenchanted with independent reading. For some students, the issue is finding a book that sparks their interest. Seeing a book with pictures, exciting adventures, and easier readability might be the hook that our students need to get them interested again in reading and completing a book.

Graphic novels are a great way to ignite interest in independent reading for middle school students.

When students are reading a text, they are decoding words and using inferences to help the story make sense. Our goal is to increase the joy in reading, and if that joy is by reading a graphic novel, then readers need access to those types of text.
