Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a small Title I neighborhood school tucked between tree lined streets, just blocks from the freeway and busy city intersections. 85% or more of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. My class is a mixture of Second Language Learners, Gifted and Talented students, and Special Needs students. My class is a diverse group of learners that come to school with variety of experiences!
My students are curious, active and benefit from hands-on learning.
They are very social and enjoy talking and sharing their ideas and opinions with each other.
My Project
Access to graphic novels in the classroom would allow students of all reading levels to enjoy reading and to participate in reading conversations. This project has a variety of fiction and non-fiction stories. From the classic Jane Eyre and historical figure Amelia Earhart, to improbable stories of superhuman animals, this project has a story for everyone.
Graphic novels will allow all students to access stories that was once only accessible to stronger readers.
My students need to have a variety of reading materials in various levels and formats. Graphic novels can help close the reading gap and help develop and foster a love of reading.
