A typical day in my classroom means working with three groups of twenty five very diverse learners from different background abilities, and walks of life. All of these different backgrounds result in various reading abilities, and levels. However, for each of them literally is the building block to becoming successful, lifelong learners. It is my hope that I can provide more opportunities for students to attain a variety of books and supplies to meet these needs.
I teach inner city students that include low income, special education and English Language Learners who would love to have access to high quality reading material among multiple reading levels.
My students need high interest novels and graphic novels to keep them inspired and reading. My classroom library is for 75 students to use both at school and home to enable daily reading. The new book selection will help increase my students vocabulary and reading comprehension across all subject areas.
My Project
My students need to get hooked on reading for academic success across all subject areas. Students in my classes struggle with vocabulary and diverse subject matters due to some socioeconomic disadvantages. My school library has very limited supply of high interest and graphic novels so I would like to have options available in my classroom.
Graphic novels grab the attention of struggling readers with all the visuals within and will then help them read more and advance.
These books offer a bridge for readers to better their skills and get hooked on reading. The more they read, the stronger their vocabulary and comprehension becomes across curriculum.
