This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

The books I am requesting are the newest titles in several of our most popular graphic novel series -- which I am asked about multiple times every day by students eager to read the next book!

It's so great to see students becoming hooked on a series, falling in love with characters, and yearning to read more! Graphic novels are also a wonderful option for our many English Language Learners, as they can access more complex stories through the illustrations and character interactions.

These books will satisfy my eager readers and help to continue our library update with the books that students are asking for! Our library collection needs to include books that students want to read, with characters that they are familiar and comfortable with. It's so important for students to have access to the books that they want to read, to keep them motivated and foster their love of reading!

Our amazing elementary complex library serves students in four schools, and as I continue to work on turning it into a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students will collaborate and learn, I also continue to update the materials and resources that students are accessing!
