Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My scholars are very energetic, optimistic, and eager readers, with grit that is sure to take them on many flights of fancy as they travel from my room to and through college.

My scholars love to read novels and create stories of their own.

Some of them even make their own little comic books. It brightens my day to see their zest for learning and to see them exploring the possibilities beyond the walls of our classroom. They are truly on the road to becoming lifelong learners and productive citizens in their communities.

My Project

My classroom library has a growing graphic novel section. Especially with the help of past projects, students in my class are drawn to this format of panels and dialogue that can be visually mesmerizing. There are students visiting my shelves that have not checked out a book all year.

In order to continue the momentum of excitement and discoveries, my classroom library is in need of funding to ensure we have a wide variety of graphic novels.

By offering a wider range of choices, our library will be increasingly appealing to the many types of readers we have within our students, and perhaps even enticing new readers.
