My Project
Two words: graphic novels. My kids love them. In fact, they love them so much it's all they'll read. My students aren't avid readers (yet!) and graphic novels are the only books I can get them all to eagerly read. They'll pour over the pages and storylines again and again.
Shhh, don't tell the kids but graphic novels are secretly improving their reading skills!
Though these type of books have a lot of images, they also have a lot of text. And according Scholastic, "with graphic novels, kids still must follow plots and character development. They must understand cause and effect, and they must learn about perspective." And for my readers who just really hate reading, these types of books offer a combination of text and images to support their understanding.
