My Project

In today's digital age, the fusion of analog and digital techniques is crucial for creating well-rounded and innovative graphic designs. As an instructor in a graphic design class, it's imperative to equip students with the necessary tools to explore this dynamic blend effectively. Most of my students have had no experience with high-quality art supplies to express themselves. Introducing Holbein Gouache Paints, Strathmore Sketchpads, and Prismacolor colored pencils will not only enhance their creative arsenal, but also facilitates a deeper understanding of design principles.

Holbein Gouache Paints offer students a tactile experience that encourages experimentation and spontaneity in their artwork.

Unlike digital tools and gouache paints allow for easy blending, layering, and mixing of colors, enabling students to explore various techniques such as washes, dry brush, and impasto. This hands-on approach fosters creativity and collaboration amongst peers, and helps students develop a keen eye for color theory and composition.

Secondly, Strathmore sketchpads provide students with a dedicated space to sketch, brainstorm, and refine their ideas away from the screen. The physical act of drawing on paper stimulates different cognitive processes and encourages students to think more critically about their designs. Additionally, sketching allows for quick iteration and exploration of different concepts, leading to more innovative and polished digital outcomes.

Lastly, Prismacolor colored pencils offer students a versatile medium for adding intricate details and textures to their designs. Many of my students have had limited exposure to artist-grade materials.

By integrating these analog tools into the curriculum, students will not only gain a deeper appreciation for traditional art techniques, but also learn how to seamlessly integrate analog elements into their digital workflow. This holistic approach to design education empowers students to become versatile and adaptable designers capable of pushing the boundaries of creativity in the digital realm.
