Graph Stamps, Sticky Charts and Rainbow Markers, Oh My!

My students need "Coordimate" graph stamps, chart paper and poster markers to display their thinking in group and individual work in math our class.

My Students

Students work together in small groups to tackle challenging math problems. They love displaying their work on huge posters and sharing what they discover in a creative way.

The students at our school are energetic, thoughtful and eager to learn when they can interact in groups and when the curriculum is made interesting.

They are supported by loving parents who care about their education. Our school has a diverse array of learners from opposite extremes of the economic spectrum. The kids represent families that range from farmers and land owners, educators and business men and women to laborers. Some families are unemployed or are caring children who belong to another family member who attend our school. This diversity creates challenges for teachers who try and make up the difference for the students and families in need.

My Project

I am so excited about this new product a teacher friend told me about. They are little self-inking stamps that allow students to "stamp" a picture of a four-quadrant graph so they can immediately begin plotting points. Of course there is benefit to having kids draw their own graphs, but the frustration level can be high when it takes so long to draw a satisfactory graph when the problem is asking kids to plot two or three points. With these stamps, kids can get right to the learning instead of being hung up on drawing the perfect graph. So I'd love to have at least two stamps per table group so students can immediately jump into what the problem is about instead of feeling discouraged on just drawing the graph. Such a time saver! With the chart paper and markers, kids can proudly display what they discovered in their learning teams. I love to see students take ownership of their work by creatively displaying what they know in big, bright colorful ways on their re-stickable chart paper.

This donation will improve my classroom environment because it helps me teach math in a more visual and creative way.

Students need to feel like they are having fun in any class, but especially math. It is my hope that positive feelings toward math, and school in general, will change my students' lives for the better. I hope they will carry their newly discovered or deepened ability and confidence with them to their future math classes.
