We are teaching math students at a suburban high school where almost 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. I have high achieving students who choose to take challenging courses such as pre-calculus and AP Calculus. We also teach students who need concrete, hands-on, real-world innovative lessons and manipulatives to understand complex ideas.
Not all of these students can afford innovative supplies or technology, such as graphing calculators, for their math and science classes.
We want these students to have access to resources like textbooks, manipulatives, supplies, and technology that they can use each day to prepare for their future. Teachers also need access to technology to create innovative and engaging lessons.
Your support will help students do well in math classes and on their tests.
My Project
Many of our students were virtual last year and didn't experience using graphing calculators in a classroom setting. Many don't have the skills they usually do when coming into an advanced math classroom.
Graphing calculators are required on the AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics exams and recommended for the ACT and SAT.
Students need to practice using them on a daily basis and that didn't happen last year in Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus classes because students were home all or part of the school year last year.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
