My Project
I love the genuine curiosity my self-contained fourth grade students have about the world around them. When taught a new skill, they truly want to know the process and reasoning behind it. Since my group is a diverse mix of exceptional needs and gifted learners, finding interesting activities that can be expanded upon for my advanced or "think-outside-the-box," learners is vital.
STEM bins and STEAM bins for K-5th Elementary students are ideal hands-on, play-based engineering and STEM activities for:

Florida BEST Math Standards taught will include MA.4.M.1.1 (Select and use appropriate tools to measure attributes of objects), MA.4.GR.1.1 (Informally explore angles as an attribute of two-dimensional figures. Identify and classify angles as acute, right, obtuse, straight or reflex).
NGSSS standards taught will include SC.4.N.1.1 (Raise questions, plan and conduct simple investigations, keep records of observations and use them to explain results), SC.3.N.1.1 (Raise questions about the natural world, plan and conduct investigations, employ tools to gather data and generate reasonable explanations).
The projected outcomes and goals for this project include Science & Inquiry Skills, such as asking questions about problem and phenomena, planning and conducting simple investigations using the materials, collecting data and making observations about the effectiveness of their design. Students can test and revise designs based on evidence, while also communicating findings through drawings, models or presentations. The materials are interchangeable and can be adapted from one activity to another.
