My Project

Clay Hill Elementary is in desperate need of more ways to make STEAM more relevant and hands-on. Students need the opportunity to develop both creative and critical thinking skills through real-life, tactile learning opportunities. We need more innovative materials to allow students to build and see the connections across science, technology, engineering, art, and math curriculum.

These Stickbot stop-motion action figures, green screen boxes, and tripods will give PK-6th grade students the opportunity to explore animation and stop-motion animation!

Students will learn all about stop-motion animation and the science behind it. This hands-on, real-world approach will engage students. Stop motion will also allow students to seamlessly progress into more complex types of animation! These materials will help our students address the nature of science standards as well as ELA standards while writing and creating storyboards! Students will engage in multidisciplinary thinking as they create explicit dialogue not just around science and ELA but with computer science as well. The possibilities are endless with these innovative tools!

These materials will give pK-6th grade students the opportunity to inquire, problem solve, and visualize through both individual and collaborative activities all year long in all subject areas! I will be able to measure the outcomes of this project by using STEAM surveys that will be given at both the beginning and end of the year. I will know if my project is successful if there is an increase in the total number of students that show an increase in STEAM education.
