Grants 4 Great Ideas: Global Cardboard Challenge

Help me give my students an opportunity to participate in this year’s Global Cardboard Challenge!

My Project

Clay Hill Elementary is in desperate need of more ways to make STEAM more relevant and hands-on. Students need the opportunity to develop both creative and critical thinking skills through real-life, tactile learning opportunities. We need more innovative materials to allow students to build and see the connections across science, technology, engineering, art, and math curriculum.

All pre-K-6th grade students will be given the opportunity to design and engineer with recycled materials.

21st-century skills like ingenuity and resourcefulness, perseverance, collaboration, teamwork, and critical thinking will be fostered during this challenge!

The non-profit Imagination.org invites kids of all ages to build whatever they can imagine with cardboard and upcycled materials during the Global Cardboard Challenge. The annual event is hosted by schools every year, and culminates in a Global Day of Play that celebrates the anniversary of the flashmob that came out to make Caine’s day in the original short film, “Caine’s Arcade”.

These materials will give all pre-K-6th grade students the opportunity to inquire, problem solve, and visualize through both individual and collaborative activities all year long in all subject areas! I will be able to measure the outcomes of this project by using STEAM surveys that will be given at both the beginning and end of the year. I will know if my project is successful if there is an increase in the total number of students that show an increase in STEAM education.
