This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students from the advanced band are the most dedicated/committed students in the city of Los Angeles. We do marching band 1st semester and concert band/winter guard second semester. Even during remote learning, we have been rehearsing twice a week after school in addition to our normal classroom period to work on our instrumental fundamentals. These students are dedicated to improving their musicianship!
I also have beginning band students that I prepare to join the advanced band after 1 year of instruments class.
They are the future of the band program. A strong band program relies on a strong foundation amongst its novice level students as they are the next generation of the Grant HS Band!
My Project
Due to COVID-19, playing band instruments in a school environment won't be the same as before the pandemic. I want to make sure students are still able to play music safely and still enjoy learning how to make music.
For example, before the pandemic, students shared mouthpieces and cleaned them before playing.
While cleaning instruments and mouthpieces will still be emphasized when we return from the classroom, sharing mouthpieces will not be ideal anymore. It will be much safer for students to have their own mouthpieces once we are back in the classroom.
