This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My wonderful special education students work extremely hard to reach the milestone of graduation. Many of them spend a full seven years in high school before transitioning into a program through the Division of Developmental Disabilities or the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Although it is a massive change to leave the comfort of high school, they are looking forward to the next chapter in their lives.
The graduation party supplies, delicious snacks and sensory toys that I am requesting would allow me to help each student feel celebrated and cared for as they prepare to venture into the real world.
My students and I share a strong bond and enjoy celebrating milestones, accomplishments and special occasions together. These items would offset some of the expenses that I anticipate for their graduation party. These delicious treats would be the ideal items to supplement the hot food that I order on that day. Decorating water bottles with stickers and markers would be an excellent end of year activity to help the students create a memorable keepsake from their graduation party!
The vast majority of my students live in low-income households with many children and the families often cannot afford to host a party. It would be fantastic to ensure that they participate in at least one guaranteed celebration to honor this major accomplishment!
