Graduation Celebration Is Even Sweeter for Twilight Graduates
Help me give my students an amazing Graduation Celebration that will continue to inspire them and give them hope after attending our Alternative School Twilight Program at night.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Going to school at night as a teenager is a sacrifice. Often times students end up in our Twilight alternative school program at night because they need more support. Twilight staff works hard to ensure that we meet the individual needs of our students. Our students face adversity ranging from lack of financial resources, homelessness, credit deficiency, and learning challenges.
We want to celebrate our students when they get to the milestone of high school graduation with a ceremony that returns them from the Twilight Alternative Program to Orange High School (regular day school).
Our staff ensures that our students feel supported by going above and beyond on a daily basis. We meet and teach individually and in small groups. Each student has a Care Team advisor who helps to pull them over the finish line to graduation. Our students are special because we know each of them on a personal level and they respond positively to the attention.
At the end of this school year, we want to ensure that our seniors feel celebrated! Many of them never thought they would graduate from high school, yet, they are very close to the finish line. This project will provide them with decor (balloons, banners, confetti, photo backdrop, curtains, paper fans) and parting gifts (books, journals, pens, certificates, candy, bookmarks, bracelets) that they deserve for a ceremony acknowledging their successful completion of Twilight Alternative Program and return to Orange High School.
