Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently a fourth grade teacher at an elementary school in Springfield, Massachusetts. At the fourth grade level we have 4 classrooms that include many Special Education Students and English as a Second Language Learners. In addition, the majority of our students are below the poverty line.
Due to our families economic struggles our students lack the life experiences of many of their peers from neighboring suburban communities.
It is our hope to expand their life experiences by going to the Connecticut Science Center.
My Project
All children should have the opportunity to experience learning outside their classroom. Our students have limited chances to experience interactive learning outside the structured classroom setting. The opportunity to explore the many hands on activities at the Connecticut Science Center will allow our students to learn in an environment that allows knowledge through discovery.
The 3D Movie, Galapagos Islands will allow our students to see animals and their habitats come alive.
Most of our children have never experienced a three dimensional movie providing them with an exciting life experience. Our science study on adaptations to an animal's habitat unit has always been their favorite unit of study thus, this will be an invaluable experience for them.
