My Students

Our students are fantastic! They come from a variety of backgrounds which makes the classroom a very diverse environment. The school is in an urban setting where we have many ELL students. There are over 700 preK-6th grade students at our school. Many of them do not have access to healthy meals, so the school runs a food pantry for students to take food home over the weekend.

These students want to do well, but many lack the tools needed to succeed.

My Project

My students need a large and comfortable rug for the classroom. A lot of the teaching that I do takes place on the rug; a space for everyone to sit comfortably and listen to a book. 6th graders are big! The rug I currently have does not even come close to fitting all of them on it and it is very thin and uncomfortable!

The rug area is also used as a space for students to sit during independent reading time.

It is important for my students to have spaces where they can sit comfortably without sitting at their desks. A large comfy rug would be awesome in the classroom!
