My Project
The students are our future leaders in the 21st Century. We have heard the old saying, "Readers are Leaders!" This is true! In every career path you choose, you must read to be successful. As a librarian, I have watched students' reading interests evolve throughout the years. It is safe to say that graphic novels have become one of the most popular choices in our library.
Graphic novels engage all students- from the highest readers to those struggling the most.
The colorful illustrations combined with text appeal to all learners. Graphic novels help even the most reluctant readers want to pick up a book. They build reading confidence and comprehension, strengthen vocabulary, and even encourage students to write their own stories.
We have a free breakfast and free lunch program to provide the nourishment that our students need to learn and achieve. We recently received a Book Vending Machine at our school. We would like to stock the machine with high-interest titles such as the Dog Man series, The Baby-Sitters Club series, and other fun titles that will encourage reading. Our students don't all have the means to build an at-home library. By funding this project, students will receive books in their hands to motivate them to read.
