Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are homogeneously compromised and come from the Coop City neighborhood in the Bronx. Many students' families can not keep up with the cost of consumable school supplies.

Students are encouraged to read daily at school and at home to increase reading comprehension skills and to build a knowledge bank.

We are a school that services students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Although we have a very strong parent presence many parents can not keep up with costs of supplies.

This past year as in all my years at my school, students come eager to learn, anxious to grow and determined to succeed.

My Project

Help! My third grade classroom library is very sparse! The class is a new third grade class and the books available for the students to read are inadequate. We will use these books during independent reading time both in school and at home. We start each day with DEAR time- Drop Everything and Read. What I try to foster in my students is the love of reading, reading books that pique our interest and choose to read for enjoyment. I want to turn reading into something treasured and special, please help me attain this. By reading books of choice, my students will be learning, building knowledge, and expanding vocabulary.
