Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The biggest challenge that my students face in the language barrier. For all of them, English is their second language; therefore, it is important for me to use visuals, such as, maps and charts. This year they are taking a government class.

I have 45 high school students that are learning English.

They are eager to learn the language. Most of them speak Spanish, and some of them Somali. Some of my students did not attend to elementary school; therefore, they are struggling in their classes. Having an SEI or ELL Government class is going to help them a lot since in this class I use strategies for English language learners. They are always asking questions, and it is a privilege for me to help them to find the answers.

My Project

This semester, I will be teaching American Government. The maps will help them to know the world that they live in. It will also help me to teach the different type of governments that exist around the world. On the other hand, the US Constitution materials will be of great help since they are visuals aids that will help them to understand how the government is organized in this country. These materials will help me to provide quality of instruction. That is what every U.S.A. student deserves.

My students will be using these materials from January to May of 2013.

It is my goal, during this time, to help them to understand the world that is around them. They will also learn about their rights and responsibilities as residents of the U.S.A. They will learn that every person is under the law of the land.
